M.E.T.A. is an acronym for Mindful Experiential Therapy Approaches. It refers both to a comprehensive therapeutic model for working with people, and also the specific business structure - M.E.T.A. LLC - that coordinates trainings and other applications of that model.
As a business, M.E.T.A. began in the late 1990's, when Jon Eisman formed a business partnership with Donna Roy to promote Jon's Hakomi and Re-Creation of the Self Trainings in the Portland, Oregon area. Gradually, the frame and practice of Jon's work and teachings expanded to become the M.E.T.A. model of clinical work. In alignment with this, Donna and Jon began evolving both the content of the trainings they presented and the scope of what they offered.
Their vision was threefold. First, they wanted to continue providing comprehensive, advanced clinical trainings for established therapists, those transitioning into the field, and other allied health professionals. Secondly, they wanted to offer inspirational learning and personal development to members of the general public. And thirdly, they hoped to create a local center in which like-minded practitioners could contribute to community awareness and well-being.
In 2008, to support this vision, M.E.T.A. LLC was vested as a registered company, and a building was acquired to serve as headquarters. The M.E.T.A. building at 15 S.E. 16th Ave, in Portland, Oregon, provides a base for the promotion of the trainings and the day-to-day operations of the organization; it houses several offices for a collective of practitioners whose work reflects M.E.T.A. values; and it establishes a centrally located community presence.
M.E.T.A. LLC has become an umbrella organization for all Portland trainings and events related to the M.E.T.A. model. It coordinates Jon's worldwide R-CS trainings, and now serves as administrator for the long standing Hakomi Institute of Oregon, which is the authorized local branch of the internationally renowned Hakomi Institute, Inc. M.E.T.A. LLC conducts a wide variety of M.E.T.A. based workshops and trainings, with topics ranging from Hakomi, R-CS and Trauma to interpersonal skills, personal development, working with couples, character theory and advanced maps for clinicians. M.E.T.A. LLC also provides consultation services to individuals and businesses, and offers a referral service to the public for compatible practitioners.
As M.E.T.A. continues to grow and expand, we look forward to hearing from you, and to working together to support, inspire and evolve our shared community...
